Workplace Health & Safety

Our lawyers’ extensive background with the laws and agencies that regulate workplace health and safety allows us to advise clients across industries on US federal and state law compliance and internationally on safety solutions and risk management.

Our focus is first to draw upon our knowledge and credibility to offer clients strategies to avoid costly litigation. Where litigation is unavoidable, we advocate for clients in their most challenging Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) citations—sometimes when industry practices are on the line—with a deep bench that lets our OSHA lawyers be on call or on location for our clients in the face of emergencies or imminent inspections. Clients benefit from our multidisciplinary perspective on the often-complex workplace health and safety issues that intersect with employment, tort, insurance, workers’ compensation, environmental, criminal, and transactional law.

Our workplace safety lawyers also help companies continually improve workplace safety performance through best practices for operations and the development and implementation of a safety management system, policies and procedures, safety audits, and training and education.

Our Team

Our team includes a former high-level US Department of Labor official who also served as both deputy solicitor and acting assistant secretary of labor for OSHA, and a former chair of the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission who also served as the senior safety executive for one of the world’s largest corporations. Clients benefit from our key relationships with OSHA investigators and officials at the local, regional, and national offices, which foster collaboration on voluntary programs and industry initiatives.

Safety Program Assessments

We understand that an effective safety program means more than complying with workplace safety regulations—it’s a reflection of an organization’s operations, leadership, culture, and commitment to continual improvement.

With the increased attention on safety and human capital, we work with clients to evaluate workplace health and safety programs through safety program assessments, which serve as a comprehensive evaluation that aligns our clients’ safety and health programs with their organizational and safety goals—with recommendations on how to assess and reduce risk; act proactively and strategically; increase leveraging of data, technology, and information sharing; identify gaps within the organizational structure and safety programs; and provide a benchmark for an organization’s performance against industry best practices.
