Corporate Transaction Support Team

Corporate Transaction Support Team

We know your legal needs are too complex for a one-size-fits-all approach. Today’s businesses require a widening range of legal services — from routine work in which efficiency and budget predictability are paramount, to high-stakes matters that merit a higher level of investment. In response to our clients’ needs and the changing legal market, we have created a new Corporate Transaction Support Team to complement our existing suite of legal services. This team of lawyers and other legal professionals supports our corporate, securitization, commercial technology, patent and trademark, ERISA and benefits, real estate, and other transactional practices.

How is the Corporate Transaction Support Team different?

  1. It is a new and different staffing model for a large national transactional practice.

Its key components include: hiring talented lawyers and other legal professionals, both new and experienced; hosting them in a lower-cost city; integrating them into our national transactional practices; providing great training and deal experience; and offering them a long-term career with interesting work and compensation that is competitive with leading local firms. We believe this will be a win-win for the firm, our lawyers and, most importantly, our clients.

  2. It takes a longer-term view of training and development.

It focuses on skills-based promotions, not the traditional lockstep model, so our team members remain laser-focused on doing their jobs well, consistently and efficiently. This allows our Corporate Transaction Support Team members to provide cost-effective services at every stage of their career.

  3. The team is based in a robust talent market.

The team works from Bingham’s Global Services Center in Lexington, Ky., where we consolidated our global administrative operations in 2013. This move has helped us support our lawyers around the world more efficiently and, in turn, to provide better service to our global client base. Lexington is an increasingly popular destination for professionals seeking a rich quality of life with a relatively low cost of living. It also is home to the University of Kentucky’s law school and is within 400 miles of more than 20 other law schools.

  4. It is staffed with people who are team-oriented and flexible.

They are enthusiastic about investing their time and talent in a new venture for our global firm. They share many of the entrepreneurial qualities our clients value within their own organizations.

  5. The team is built specifically for clients.

Because it is a new staffing model for Bingham, we have the opportunity to design it to fit our clients’ needs. We have started with a small team to make sure we get this model right, but we will expand in response to client demand.

This new model offers significant benefits for our clients:

The Corporate Transaction Support Team provides Bingham-trained talent in a flexible model. Members of the team participate in the extensive training program we offer to corporate professionals throughout our global offices. In addition, we provide individualized training in areas where the team will work on a regular basis. The Corporate Transaction Support Team is supervised on-site by Charles A. Sweet, the Practice Development Leader of the Structured Transactions Group. Charlie, who is a corporate and securities lawyer with more than 25 years of experience, has moved from our Washington, D.C., office to Lexington to serve as Managing Director of this new venture.

The Corporate Transaction Support Team offers the potential to shape the team for your needs. We expect that our clients will use this new resource in a variety of ways, ranging from staffing team members as part of our larger cross-office deal teams, to using team members as an extension of in-house legal staff, on a short-term or long-term basis. We have designed our team to give us greater flexibility to work under alternative billing structures and respond to client requests for more predictable legal costs.

We know that clients will quickly see the value in working with the Corporate Transaction Support Team. We welcome suggestions of how the team can assist with your business objectives. These talented professionals are the foundation of what we expect will be a successful new collaboration between Bingham and our clients.
